Constant "Currently in Use" Error: Office 2007

Hi all!

3 users in my office are all having the same problem. If we try to save a
file onto our network file server (Novell/Linux, not Sharepoint or
Microsoft), we get an error that says "X file is currently in use. Try again
later."

We initially checked to see if they were in use by any computer in our
office, but that is not the case. It doesn't matter which Office program
we're using nor if we have more than one window open at a time.

I read online that there are other people with this problem. Has a fix been
developed yet?

We are all using Office 2007 with Windows XP SP 3.

Thanks for trying to help!

The great tech support folks at MSFT found the problem! I wanted to post it
in case anyone else came up with it.

If you are using eTrust along with Novell, go into the Realtime Options and
under the Advanced tab, make sure "Protect Network Drives" is checked.

That does the trick - office is trying to protect you from unprotected data
streams, so it converts the documents to read only if the documents are not
protected. The error just doesn't give you enough information about WHY the
problem is occurring.

So anyway, its fixed, and I wanted to mention it.

I'm seeing the same problem but am not using ETrust or Novell. It
happens when saving the files to the users folders on a 2003 Sever,
but saving to the local drive works OK. All the file permissions are
ok, and the same user can save files when logged into the same account
in the Domain, but using a different computer that has Office 2003.

Any ideas?

Are you within your 90 days of support? I'd take advantage. I was very
impressed with how thorough MSFT was and how they stuck with it and
eventually found the problem. It probably has to do with something similar,
just with a different program. I'd give it a shot - and, check the antivirus
to make sure all the areas are protected where you are trying to save. I've
read online about a similar problem with BitDefender.
