Constant Windows pointer switching between arrow and hourglass

Hello

Does anyone know what can cause the windows pointer to switch between the
arrow and hourglass figures constantly?

This happens in Word, Excel, Publisher 2002 & Outlook Express. (Running on XP)
It seems ok in Outlook 2002

It's a real annoying problem and it's driving me wild ...

Any Ideas ?

Suggest you review the meaning of the various mouse pointers in Control
Panel, Mouse.

Just a shot in the dark here, but check under the Tools menu and see
if Speech is enabled since Speech recognition can exhibit the behavior
you describe.
