constantly synchronizing folders

How can I stop Office Outlook from constantly synchronizing folders?

Within a couple of minutes of opening Outlook it will start trying to
synchronize folders, which of course slows it down. After a while, it appears
to have completed it's task, but within a few minutes... it starts
synchronizing folders again. This happens every time I open Outlook and it is
very aggravating, to say the least.

I am using Office Outlook 2007 with Windows XP
