Construciton Costs

I would like to show reports for monthly construction cost. Does MS Project have the ability to take a total cost and spread it over the project. Example - Concrete will have a total cost for the project. With Concrete I will have General Conditions and Formwork.

I have tried to enter the cost in resources, but it keeps trying to shorten my task. All I want to do is have the major catagories with there cost and have Project level it over the duration.

I am new at MS Project and appreciate any information

Exampl

Concrete cost $3000 General Conditions Cost 15,00

Concrete will last one month while General Conditions will last the duration of the project 6 months.

Hi,

In the resource sheet (Project 2000+) you can set a resource as a material
resource and enter a label and rate. So for Concrete set the label to m3 or
cu yd and the rate to that for cubic metre or yard. Now assign the resource.
It won't affect the duration.

To stop changing the duration:
Select Window, Split
With the task you want to add a second resource to selected, deselect Effort
Driven in the lower pane. Now assigning extra resources won't change the
duration.

Assign Concrete and 2 units and the task gets two lots of concrete at twice
the rate you entered in the resource sheet View.

Costs are attributed to specific tasks. You would enter "concrete" as a
material resource that has a specific cost per unit, ie units might be cubic
yard and costs might be $10 per cubic yard. Then you have a task "pour
foundation" that you estimate will require 100 cubic yards of concrete. You
enter that as part of the resource assignment - "Concrete, 100 yards"
Project then calculates the cost of that task as being $1000. Project
prepares its budgets from the bottom up - the cost of the project is the sum
of the individual costs of its component tasks. You do not take a total
estimated cost and distribute it downwards.
