Contact and Distribution lists

I can filter lists through categories on my contact list,
but then cannot make that filter a separate list either
for a subcontact list or a distribution list. It seems
that both new contact lists and distribution lists
require selecting from the master list. That takes a lot
of time, because I have to remember who all is in the
category that I want to make a new contaxt group out of,
or a distribution list.

Also, I did make a new contact group by using the select
and drag method, and thought that I could then make a
distribution list from that new group, but I had to go
back to the masterlist, even when I had selected my new
group.

Is there any way to filter and then do a "save as"...?

Here is how you can use a view filtered by category to create a DL:
Right click and drag the Category header required to a newly created sub
folder then choose Copy. Make sure the new sub folder has been enabled as an
email address book by right clicking on it and
choosing Properties and Outlook Address Book Tab > check the box to enable
as email address book. Create your Distribution List but make sure the Show
Names drop down field points to the new sub folder then shift select all the
contacts.
