Did you restart Outlook?
Are your names parsed correctly in the Contact Records?

J

Jim

Yes I restarted outlook and I also did a detect & repair.
I also tried to change them without opening Otlook but
nothing changed. As far a the question "Are your names
parsed correctly in the Contact Records?" Yes I believe
so. Is there a way to verify?

Well no wonder. Changing the setting in the Outlook Address Book has no
effect on the Contacts Folder. Which view of the Contacts Folder? Most sort
on the File As... field.

I changed the OAB only after I attempted the change under
the View>current view> customize current view.
As far as the sort it is on File as field.

Then I don't understand your question. What are you trying to do? Are you
trying to change your existing File As... fields? If so, that requires code.
You cannot do it through the GUI.

Ok. Just to be clear. Within the outlook 2002 product to
the contact folder with the current view set to "Address
cards". on the left of the screen the display is Last
name first. Each contact can be individually changed to
first name first when using the files as drop down. that
part works. However I have approximatly 3000 contacts to
do that to so doing them one by one would not make sense.
I need to do them all at once.

Indeed, you want to change the File As field for all existing Contacts.
Requires code:
Take a look at this MS KB article, it may help:
