Contact Full Name Is Reversed

M

Marc Fineberg

I am using Outlook 2007 Contact Folder
In Tools-Options-Contact Options, I have selected as default "full name"
order: first (middle) last
and as the default "file as" Last, First (Company)

I enter the name from the drop down menu of the full name box.
first name: John
last name: Doe
On the first line next to the full name drop down box it shows as Doe
John
(no comma after Doe)
On the file as line it shows as Doe, John
On the business card to the it shows as Doe John (no comma after Doe)

How can I get the contact full name to display in the First Middle Last
order?

Also when I first set up Outlook 2007 and synced with my Blackberry all
the contacts appeared with First Middle Last format correctly. When I go
into any of those contacts and edit them the format will then be
reversed.

Thanks

Marc

Never enter data in the Full Name field. When you do, you force Outlook to
parse the elements, and Outlook is not smart enough to do so. Parse them
yourself in the Full Name Dialog Box.
What will happen in a sync is not an Outlook question. That is controlled
completely by the sync software. Many will alter your data in ways you won't
like.

Thanks for the reply Russ

Sync is not a problem. Blackbery software hasn't changed anything it
syncs everything as entered. Even if Outlook shows it reversed my BB is
the way I intended it to be.

If I enter the my data from the drop down menu (new contact screen) the
name is shown in reverse (last name first) if I enter the data in the
Full Name field and then look in the drop down menu the last name is in
the first name box and the first name is in the last name box. No mater
where I enter the name it is reversed. I didn't have this problem in
Outlook 2002.

Your term "drop down menu" is unclear. Are you parsing name elements
correctly in the Full Name dialog box? Others are reporting bugs with this
in Outlook 2007. I can't reproduce it.

What I mean by "drop down" menu is in NEW-CONTACTS the FULL NAME button not
the empty box next to it.

Verify that the value in "Tools" > "Options" > "Preferences" >
"Contact Options" > "Default Full Name order" is set to "First
(Middle) Last".

WH thanks for the reply. You must not have noticed I stated that I had
done that in my original message.

I have since found a fix. I uninstalled the entire offic program, did a
registry clean and re-intalled Office 2007 pro. Now with the original
settings whether I insert the contact using the "full name" button or
the empty box next to it, the name appears as it should (first middle
last) and is filed last, first, company.

I don't know what the cause was. The first install was an upgrade from
Office 2002 pro, the second install was a clean install.

Go figure

Thanks for all the help

Marc

Others have reported similar behavior. I can't reproduce it with a clean
install. Was this a clean install? If not, did you create a new profile?

When it happened to me, it was after changing the format to Last first to
check something, then changing it back to first last. I had to reboot to get
it working and so far, so good. Entering the names as Last, First always
formatted the names correctly.
