When i attempt to send an email to a contact list in the
shared directory it gives me a message operation failed.
How do i set it up where i can send an email to a contact
list containing hundreds of names?

Could you provide more details as to what you mean by contact list and
shared directory? List the steps you've used and the precise error message.
Have you verified that all the addresses in the list are valid?
