Contact List

I add contacts from e-mail that I receive and they go into
my contact list in my Outlook Today folder. I then compose
a new e-mail and when I click on the To: button and select
the contact list there are no entries. If I open the
contact list folder all of the contacts are there.

This is caused by two instances of Contacts.
The workaround (not great), is go to Tools, Address Book,
Show Names From The ___. In there, choose the OTHER
Contacts on the list. I think it will solve your
immediate problem. (e-mail address removed)

HOwever, I haven't figured out WHY there are two Contacts
lists or how to get rid of the wrong one. My problem was
there were two lists, BOTH with contact information, so I
would add info then not be able to find it (it would be in
the other contacts list.)

Clearly you have more than one Contacts Folder in your profile. Tell us how
many you have and why you have more than one. With that information we can
tell you how to set things straight.

Sorry I omitted some information. I have Outlook 2000. We
were using pop3 mail and everything was and still is
working fine with pop3 mail. I am using both Exchange
server and pop3 right now until I get all my users
converted to Exchange server. I used the re-configure mail
support option to use both Exchange server and internet
mail. Everything is working great but the contacts. Yes, I
have two contact lists. One in the Outlook Today folder on
the server and one in my personal folders from the .pst
from the internet e-mail. I guess Outlook cannnot handle
two contact folders. What is the solution? Copy everything
out of the .pst into the Outlook Today folders, remove the
personal folders service, delete the .pst and then add the
personal folders service. I am going with Exchange server
because we have an Inter-Municipal Agreement with
Westchester County for e-mail and internet access.

Yes, I have two Contacts. One from the Outlook Today
folder on the server and one in my .pst from Personal
Folders. The one from personal folders is there because we
were using internet mail and I am converting to server
based mail. Yes, I have two and that is why. The work
around is just like you said. In my personal folders I
renamed the contact list. Now when you address mail you
know what list you are using. You still have to copy
contacts from one folder to another. If Outlook could sync
them that would also be a work around. I replied to Russ
and I am waiting for a response. You might want to read it.

Whoa. You left out a ton of information.
Let me get this straight. You have both Exchange Server and Internet Mail as
transports and both an Exchange mailbox and a PST file as information stores
all in the same profile?
Definitely not a recommended configuration. Create separate profiles.

Sounds good. So I just removed all services except
Exchange server and the same result. So I removed Outlook
and the e-mail files and installed it like new. Same
result cannot address mail to contacts in the contact list.
What could be the problem? I think it is a problem on the
Exchange server. I am not in charge of the server and it
is halfway acroos the county. Or could it be a combination
of services in Outlook?

After you created a new profile, did you add the Outlook Address Book
Service to the profile and configure it to display the Exchange mailbox's
Contacts Folder?
Did you leave the PST out of this profile?
