Contact manager installation

P

Philc

I installed Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2003.
While installing I got no errors or warnings.
Also I have no errors in system logs.
Only warning message in application log that I have is event id 19011 from
MSSQL$MICROSOFTBCM.
After Outlook starting, I still do not have "Business Tools" in Outlook main
menu.
Operation system is MS XP Pro. All updates installed.

I would appreciate any help

Hi Burloak,

It is mostly caused that the BCM is disabled in Outlook or BCM is not added in Outlook. Follow the steps below to see if it works.

Step 1: Enable BCM in Outlook
============
1. In Outlook 2003, click the Help menu > About Microsoft Office Outlook.
2. Click Disabled Items > if BCM is listed, click Enable to enable it.
3. Restart Outlook 2003. Are you able to find the Buisness Tools menu?

Related KB article:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;840778

If it doesn't work, go to next step.

Step 2:
=========
Check if you are using Exchange email account in Outlook 2003. If so, please make sure that you installed BCM 2.0. If not, please
update BCM to 2.0

Step 3: associate Business Contact Manager with your profile
=============
a. On the File menu, click Data File Management.

b. In the Outlook Data Files dialog box, click Add.

c. In the Types of storage list, click Business Contact Manager Database, and then click OK.

d. In the Associate Database Wizard, do one of the following:

If you installed Business Contact Manager for the first time, select Create new database, click Next, and follow the on-screen
instructions.

If you are restoring a previous database association, select Use an existing database, select the Business Contact Manager database
that you want to restore, and then click Next. Restart Outlook.

If it doesn't work, go to next step.

Step 4: modify registry
=============
If you do not see the menu or toolbar, it usually means the BCM add-in failed to load. To try to get it back, make a backup of the
Windows registry, then run the registry editor (Regedit.exe or Regedt32.exe).

In the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Microsoft.BusinessSolutions.eCRM.OutlookAddIn.Connect.1 key,
double-click LoadBehavior and change its value to 3. Then restart Outlook.

If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Emily Lin,

Hi Burloak,

Thanks for the detail information on this issue.

2. I use POP3 account only, no Exchange account. Where to get BCM version info?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > check the entry - Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2003.
As you are only using POP3 account, there is no matter which BCM version you used.

3. When I click Add trying to create Business Contact Manager Database, I get a error-window "Managed MAPI service catastrophic
failure" (Could not load file or assembly 'Iris.Mapi.MesageStore'...........). How to start Associate Database Wizard?

This issue can be a result from the .NET Framework being installed incorrectly. Follow the steps below to fix the issue.
---------------
1. Uninstall BCM
2. Run dotnetfx.exe on the BCM CD
3. Reinstall BCM

What is the result? If it still doesn't work, follow the steps below to reinstall the .NET framework to see if it works.

Step 1: repair Microsoft .NET Framework
=====================
1. Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
2. Are you able to find any entry related to Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1. If so, remove the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1.
3. If you are running Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 or a later version, repair the installation.

Are you able to repair the Microsoft .NET Framework? If so, does it fix the issue?

For more information about how to repair the .NET Framework, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft
Knowledge Base:
908077 How to troubleshoot Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installation issues
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;908077

If the issue persists, continue to next step.

Step 2: remove and reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework
======================
If the .NET Framework fails to be repaired, the issue may be caused that the Windows Installer files for Microsoft .NET Framework was
corrupted and it cannot be fixed by normal repair/reinstall process. Let's use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove/reinstall
Microsoft .NET Framework to see if it works.

1. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/9/D/E9D80355-7AB4-45B8-80E8-983A48D5E1BD/msicuu2.exe
2. After you install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, click Start menu-> All Programs-> Windows Install Clean Up.
3. Highlight all the entries related to Microsoft .NET Framework, click Remove to remove it.

4. Download and reinstall the .NET Framework 2.0 from the following webpage.

Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86) http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=
0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&DisplayLang=en

or the latest version of the .NET Framework 3.0:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0B-F857-4A14-83F5-25634C3BF043&displaylang=en

Test the issue again. What is the result?

4. I can net find
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Microsoft.BusinessSolutions.eCRM.OutlookAddIn.Connect.1
The only addin, that I see in registry, is
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\Microsoft.VbaAddinForOutlook.1

It means that the BCM addin is not added in Outlook 2003.

If anything is unclear or if you have any other concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me.
