Contacts and Address Book nearly empty afterexport of Entourage archive

Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel
Email Client: Exchange

I've been dealing with a major email problem, described in greater detail here: <http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/Entourage/8826>

Part way through the repair process, I exported my Entourage database to an .rge file (main identity.rge) on an external hard drive.

Now I find that my contacts are completely empty, and the only thing left in my address book are the groups that I created.

I distinctly remember selecting "keep items in Entourage" during the export process, and all the email is still here.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Perhaps importing the Archive back into Ent is the only solution. I am apprehensive about this, because the archive is very large (4.4GB). That's because it already contains multiple copies of many of my folders and messages, due to the problem described in the linked post above. So an import would DOUBLE that problem. Not sure Entourage can handle that. I already had to repair the database once.

In the export options, you have the option to export and delete from the
Identity. Are you sure you didn't select that option?? If anything, you
could re-import the contacts.

I see.... Maybe a corruption in the Identity then. Relaunch Entourage
pressing the Option key down to rebuild the identity,

I would try repairing again, really.
then I would reimport the contacts only. You don't have to reimport
everything.

Repaired the database, but that did not work. Still no contacts. I would appreciate guidance on a way to import just the contacts without importing all the email. I do not see that option available. The import contacts command appears to allow importing only from sources other than what I have. It does not seem to give me the option of pulling just the contacts out of the Entourage archive.

Perhaps there was a slip of the finger here. It sure sounds like delete
after export was selected.

If your only account is an Exchange account, it's best to create a new
Identity rather than try and rebuild. There should be a backup on your
server that can restore your Identity before the items were deleted.
......the archive is very large (4.4GB)

This is extremely large for an Entourage archive (.rge) file. You could try
creating a new Identity and import that file into the new Identity to see
what it actually contains. You can select to export by item and get only
your contacts.
