Contacts are missing when I click To, Cc or Bcc buttons

I just used Easy Transfer to move my Outlook 2003 files to Vista Home -
Outlook 2007. In the Contacts view, all are there.

I attempted the resolution steps in Outlook Help to configure the Contacts
folder Show this folder... was not enabled and to Reset Outlook Address Book
settings, but in Show this addess list first, my Contacts were not listed.

Contacts etc etc ..

Actually, it is well documented that use the WET will invariably corrupt
your Outlook profile.

Create a new one under Control Panel->Mail Icon->PRofiles->New. Do not copy
the old corrupt one - and configure it to use your correct .pst file.

I created a new profile and the results were the same.
All my data transferred and is viewable in Mail-Calendar-Contacts. I added a
"test" contact to one of the Contact folders and it transferred over to my
iTouch at the next sync. Everything works like it should, except in creating
a new mail when I click "To" and a blank address window opens up.
What gives the To-Cc_Bcc buttons direction on where to go for
contact/address data?
When I set up Outlook, could I have indicated that I use an exchange
server(?) and it scewed things up. But, then again, everything else works
great.

I did attempt both of those suggested fixes previously (forgot to include in
previous reply), as I had found them in Outlook Help. "Show this folder;;;"
was disabled/greyed out.
In Outlook Address Book settings, when I click New, there are two listings.
Mobile Addr book and Outlook Addr book. As a result, when I click on Outlook
Address book, a message infoems me that This account already exists and
cannot be specified twice.

Then your mail profile is still corrupt, possibly from not having created it
correctly. Describe exactly the steps you used.

I created a new profile by using the follwoing steps starting in vista home.
start
control panel additonal options
32-bit control panel
mail - mail setup-outlook
show profiles
add
add new em account
- the following inputs were exactly like my original account and were keyed
in - not copy/paste.
em address
password - twice
- searching for mjh....@.... settings
configuring em server settings.
- it could not establish an encrypted connection so I clicked Next to have
it search for an unencrypted server - which it found

In Account Settings/Data Files - i confirmed the default was Outlok2.pst in
c:\users\mark\appdata\local\micrsoft
outlook

Always use this profile (the new one).

reboot - same result.

I created another new profile just now to ensure I documented the process
your name. My previous attempt created the data file Outlook1. Both Outlook
1 & 2 are 265K in size and my original file that was east transferred over
from an Outlook 2003 PC is at 926,545K(?).

I appreciate the help. I called dell software support this morning and they
(India) told me that Outlook 2009 Small Business requires a server to store
and access Contact dtata. I found that very hard to believe. Do you know if
it is true?

Because my PC came pre-loadd with Office 2007 Small Business with Outlook
2007 Small Business and I have no need for the Small Business function, can
or should I uninstall the following programs?

-MS Server Native Client
-MS SQL Server Setup Support Files

I removed all of the Outlook business contact/management programs mentioned
in my previous reply and created another new profile and then some of the
Contact data appeared when I clicked on "To".

I then found that I could go to each of my individual Contact folders -
- properties
- Outllook Address Book tab
and enable - Show this folder as an e-mail address book.

There might be a better/cleaner way of making that happen, but it worked and
I have visibility and use of all the data that I hade on my old PC.

so you answer is wrong by default

Anyway, to continue - problem is still there:
-Sony laptop used to have Windows XP and Outlook 2007 which were backed up
and Windows Vista Pro was installed which included trial Outlook 2007 with
evaluation version of that "Business Manager whatever".
- Trial Outlook 2007 with "Business Manager .." was uninstalled and latest
MS Office with normal Outlook 2007 was installed instead. Unfortunately, SQL
Server component of old installation could not be deleted completely as it is
required by some Sony program, but BUS.. instance of server was deleted.
- PST files were restored from XP backup and worked well except this weirdo
empty contacts when 'To' is pressed (Contacts per se are fine).
- MS help suggested solutions did not help:
- suggested check box in "show this folder as an email address book" is
greyed out
- suggested entry in "Show this address list first" dropdown would not
contain Contacts entry it is supposed to contain
- creation of new mail Outlook profile and setting it as default does
not change anything
