Contacts as Address Book - Outlook 2007

The Address book in my Outlook 2007 is blank, i have read many post and
tried all the proposed soultuions i could find without a satisfactory
result.

When I go to Tools>Account Settings>Address Book, Outlook Address Book is
listed, the "type" is MAPI. The only actions available on that page are
"New" and "Change".

If I select "New" Additional Address Books it won't allow
me to pick "Outlook Address Book" as a type, because it already exists.
If I select "Change", the dialog that appears has an empty list of Outlook
Address
Books.

If I select the Properties on Contacts folder, then (and select the Outlook
Address Book) tab. The "Show
this folder as an email Address Book is unchecked and is grayed (so i can
not select the checkbox)

I have made a clean profile an imported the the contcts to the new file, no
help

that means. Tell us in complete detail. I find your claim unlikely since you
said you imported your Contacts. You never saw that here and should never
have done so. Post accurately and completely if you want help in a
newsgroup.

Wow what a helpful reply, not. I gave you a list of things I have symptoms.
I did not say that I limited my attempts at correcting the problem to post
in this forum! Your sentence "You never saw that here and should never have
done so." makes no sense. I trust you are not saying that the only way to
get your contacts to work in outlook is to type them all in manually again.
Next you go on to say "Post accurately and completely if you want help in a
newsgroup".

Let me point out that this is a community and you do not own it. If you
will take the time to read my post before trying to start a flame war you
will see that I did give a very accurate description of the symptoms in
regards to this issue. Many other are dealing with a similar issue, maybe
you should consider the usefulness of your replies before you hit send.

What more complete details could you want?

The Address book has no entries.

I read your post carefully and completely. It contains no useful information
that would permit troubleshooting, even including your nasty reply.
No post here that tells you how to migrate Outlook data ever includes the
option to import it. That is never the correct way to transfer Outlook data.
Read the posts here more carefully. If you expect help here post your
problems and the steps that produced them more accurately. Include, for
example, how you migrated your data to your new installation of Outlook 2007
and why you imagine that importing had any role in doing so.

Let me start with the last of your statements first. I used the built in
import/export function to get the contacts from the old PST file, and it has
not in the issue other than to have some contacts with which to work. I
suppose that Microsoft put the import/export function in the program so
users could use it.
If I do not know how it could be clear stated that the Address Book has no
entries and that Outlook 2007 will not use the information in the Contacts
folder as e-mail Address Book. Microsoft gives no other error messages
other than what I stated in the first post.
You want the steps I take to reproduce the error, hmm I open the Address
Book and it is blank.
As for my 'nasty reply' it was in points out the tone of your first rant of

I do not "expect" help, I have requested help in a public community forum.
As for you comment about using learning how to use newsgroups, I seem to be
able to post just fine.
Once again your post contains (in your words) "no useful information".

Importing is for importing data from another format. It is never the correct
way to transfer Outlook data. It is a frequent cause of problems with your
profile or address book. That has been made very clear in many posts here
and why you throw us off track when say you "followed the instructions
here..., etc." It is impossible to answer your questions without knowing
exactly what you did and what happened when you tried. That's all you needed
to post.
At this point I would simply do what the KB tells you to configure the
address book and if it doesn't work, state what steps you used and what
happened:

Wow, those answers were not helpful at all. Well...

I have the same problem and was solved by creating a new account in Windows and using MS Outlook 2007 import feature for pst files. It worked like a charm with no problems, contacts and emails are visible and Address Book works fine.

I have the same problem and was solved by creating a new account in
Windows and using MS Outlook 2007 import feature for pst files. It
worked like a charm with no problems, contacts and emails are visible
and Address Book works fine.

You were lucky. Exporting to and importing from a PST in order to transfer
data from one Outlook instance to another is never the correct approach.
You lose data, it's unnecessary, and you can corrupt your mail profile.

I am having the same issue here. We are deploying Office 2007 out
slowly to make sure that there are no bugs. I have one user that can
not change the settings on the contacts folder. The check box for show
this folder as an email address book is blank and greyed out. I used
here account on two different systems with Outlook 2007 and I am
getting the same result. When I go to a system with outlook 2003
installed I have no problem. I know that outlook 2007 does not work
with .pab file anymore. Her contacts are showing up in outlook itself
but are not showing up in the address book. Even if I remove her
contacts folder they still show up, and when I recreate or put the
contacts back in there is a blank box in the dialog box

Have you checked to make sure that the Outlook Address Book Service has been
added to the profile? That path is slightly different in Outlook 2007 Tools

Account Settings > Address Book Tab.

Unfortunately, Outlook 2007 still has plenty of bugs, one of which prevents
users from being able to configure the Outlook Address Book properly.

I am finding this message string interesting but not helpful. Interesting
because I have the same problem but there doesn't appear to be a resolution.
I have migrated from an XP based PC using Office XP Prof 2002 to a Vista PC
using Small Bus Office 2007. I used Easy Transfer to do the job and have not
used any special selections. Outlook runs fine and all my mail and contacts
records are there - but the address book is blank. My mail is on a POP3
server.
On the Account Settings tab the addres book is there as a MAPPI type (not
sure what that means) and it prompts me to go to the Properties option in the
Contacts folder to designate my Contacts as my Address Book, which is what I
want. I have done that but the Outlook Address Book tab of this window is
greyed out. I seem to be able to see what I want but cannot action it.
Russ -- would you please give me some (simple) instuctions to get the
address book working, thanks.

Windows Easy transfer corrupts the Outlook profile. You must create a new
Outlook profile from scratch in order to get the Outlook Address Book
Service to work again.

Account Settings > Address Book Tab.

Unfortunately, Outlook 2007 still has plenty of bugs, one of which
prevents
users from being able to configure the Outlook Address Book properly.

The Address book in my Outlook 2007 is blank, i have read many post
and
tried all the proposed soultuions i could find without a
satisfactory

When I go to Tools>Account Settings>Address Book, Outlook Address
Book
is
listed, the "type" is MAPI. The only actions available on that page
are

If I select "New" Additional Address Books it won't allow
me to pick "Outlook Address Book" as a type, because it already
exists.
If I select "Change", the dialog that appears has an empty list of
Outlook
Address
Books.

If I select the Properties on Contacts folder, then (and select the
Outlook
Address Book) tab. The "Show
this folder as an email Address Book is unchecked and is grayed (so
i
can
not select the checkbox)

I have made a clean profile an imported the the contcts to the new
file,
no

I am having the same issue here. We are deploying Office 2007 out
slowly to make sure that there are no bugs. I have one user that can
not change the settings on the contacts folder. The check box for show
this folder as an email address book is blank and greyed out. I used
here account on two different systems with Outlook 2007 and I am
getting the same result. When I go to a system with outlook 2003
installed I have no problem. I know that outlook 2007 does not work
with .pab file anymore. Her contacts are showing up in outlook itself
but are not showing up in the address book. Even if I remove her
contacts folder they still show up, and when I recreate or put the
contacts back in there is a blank box in the dialog box

To designate a Contacts folder as an Outlook Address Book, go to the
Properties dialog box for the Contacts folder. On the Outlook Address
Book tab, select the "Show this folder as an e-mail Address Book"
check box.
Outlook Address Books:
Remove Address Book
Show names by
First Last (John Smith)
File As (Smith, John)
Close

in it and it is asking me if I want to remove it.

I am trying to be as specific as possible. I hope that I don't get
