Contacts don't show in lists but they're there

My contacts don't show up in lists. When I click on the 'to' button in
a new message to choose the contact,
there are two entries in the drop down list: Outlook Address Book -
says 'no entries in this address book' and under that, indented there
is CONTACTS - which is empty.

If I try to create a distribution list and select my contacts... it
shows the same as above and no contacts.

Also, when I choose find contact outlook can find none of my contacts
even though they are there...

Also, I cannot type a nickname and have outlook fill in the email
address..

I do have contacts. I assume the are kept in the .pst file I use. I
can go to the contact window and there they are.

SUGGESTIONS??

I'd suggest you post your Outlook version.
You need to install and configure your Outlook Address Book Service
correctly.
