Contacts folders

Eddie Biggs

I'm using Outlook 2003 with XP Pro, after upgrading from
Office XP when I got a new notebook. My contacts are in
three folders; Contacts, group A and Group B. I've
noticed that if I open contacts (from the left hand
column) I have folders listed as follows: Contacts, Group
A, Group B, Group a , Contacts. When I tried to open the
last two to see what was in them the right pane displays:
'Unable to display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook
could not access the specified folder location. The
operation cannot be performed because the object has been
deleted.'
Is there a way to remove the repeated
folders/lists/whatever they are?
Regards
Eddie

It is not clear to what view you are referring.
How did you migrate your data to this new installation?

I used Email Saver Xe. The view I'm referring to is in
the Navigation Pane. The way this set up is with
navigation Pane on the left. When I click on th
econtacts button at the bottom of the pane, my contacts
show up, with Group A and Group B as folders underneath.
However, there is a repeat listing of Group A and
Contacts (in that order) after Group A.

What is Email Saver XE?
Why didn't you just copy and reuse your PST file?
Do you still have your original PST file?

That's rather an important detail you left out. How were we supposed to have
guessed that you used a non-supported method to transfer data?
Either your PST file or your view is now corrupt.
Can't you just R click and close the extra folder references?
Try repairing your PST file with the Inbox Repair Tool.
Try starting Outlook once with the /cleanviews switch.

Sorry for the misinformation - I wasn't expecting anyone
to guess anything and just didn't occur to me until you
asked how the data was transferred. As you would have
guessed with me needing a techo to set up a network, that
supposedly should be self evident, I'm not exactly au
fait with the tools at my disposal. The /cleanviews
option worked - thanks. I do appreciate this recently
found forum though that I have found very helpful. I
gather that if I locate the .pst file I can copy it to a
disk and that will be a back up copy of outlook,
contacts,my email settings and all my emial messages?

Actually the /cleanviews didn't work. When I click on
either of the folders the address bar shows
outlook:000000005781EF02D9760341AD871AD28681CFB062830000
does that lead to anything. If my pst file is
corrupted,is there a way to save past email messages etc
and restarting a new .pst file?

So we're OK then? Sounds more like a corrupted view that a corrupted PST
file. It was retaining links to the previous location of the PST file.
Saving a copy of your PST file periodically is always a good idea for backup
purposes. The Inbox Repair Tool can fix most errors, but not all.
