Contacts import out of order

Having discovered to my horror that Microsoft decided to exercise yet more commercial protectionism by not adding an "Import from Outlook" feature; I have now wasted many hours trying several poorly built 3rd party programs to import my Outlook 2003 .pst file.

I have managed to get my email, calender and contacts in but for some reason the contacts all appear out of alphabetical order and lots of the notes did not copy over. I have looked at them all and can see no reason for this. I have tried 2 different programs and they both do this. I am resigned to go through and edit all 175 contacts but I don't quite know what to edit.

Any ideas?

Since the Address Book can be sorted by any of its many dozens of
fields, this makes no sense. Have you tried sorting it by clicking on
one of the column headers?

Be aware that Entourage does not have the 'File As' feature as Outlook
does.

Yes all the contacts show up in the address book

Yes I have tried clicking on the name column as that is the one that is not sroting them in order.

I've looked at th eindividual name fields for the cotacts and can see nothign wrong wiht them.

I am now also getting double addresses and contacts now each time I re-import the data even though I have cleared out all previous data, deleted the entourage database files and cleared out iCal and Address Book!

Entourage 2008 has the ability to show First Name and Last Name. see

To get rid of duplicates use one of the scripts on this page.

Database Utility has repeatedly failed to complete Step 5. Are there
limitations on e.g. database size?

You probably don¹t have enough free space on your hard drive to complete.

Rebuilding a damaged database that exceeded size limit

Size Limits of Database

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/database/size.html>
Entourage Database is 2.38GB, free disk is 33.39GB. When it stops the
Rebuilt Database has reached around 1.7GB. Sync Services not enabled. MS
Database Daemon killed before running rebuild.
Entourage 2008 V12.2.1, OS X 10.5.8

Any more thoughts?

More space might do the trick as explained in the article I referenced.

BTW, how much free space in relationship to your entire drive? You need a
minimum of 10% free for just virtual memory.

I recover databases for clients and have a drive with 500GB free.

Diane,
Macintosh HD:
Capacity: 232.57 GB
Available: 30.31 GB
So 500 GB free is not an option!
The database is working day to day, but show an error when trying to export,
hence the concern........

You are really getting close for free space just to operate. This page
offers useful info on reclaiming space.

If you can open Entourage, try exporting as Entourage archive (.rge) file.
This might fail because of corruption. Next try exporting as MBOX files. The
script will fail on the folder with corruption, but you will know where to
start looking for the bad message(s).

Export folders as MBOX files (includes subfolders)

Once you get all your data out, you need to create a new Identity and import
the data.

How to manually move your data. (when import fails and/or you need to move
to a new Identity same version or revert to an older version)

Hope this helps!
