Contacts "lost" after upgrade

K

KARIN

I upgraded to Office XP (my Outlook.pst folder is on my D drive -- I was able
to successfully have Outlook use that file). Initially, my Contacts were all
there (I have an eye witness I wasn't dreaming). Now, they are gone. Tasks
are all there. I am hoping they are in a folder not being found by Outlook
(I can't stand the thought that I might have lost them). Help will be most
appreciated! Thanks!

Remove and reinstall your Outlook Address Book service. Control Panel->Mail Icon->Email Accounts->Directories->View or Change. Remove the OAB service, back up and add it again (all done with Outlook closed of course.)

After furious head scratching, KARIN asked:

| Making progress. "Found" all my custom Contact folders and they work
| fine, however "Contacts" does not. When I start a new message I get
| this error message: "Address list could not be displayed. Contacts
| folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may
| have been moved or deleted or you do not have permissions."
|
| Thanks for your help!

Thanks, Milly -- this worked -- however, now the folders of my other Contacts
(such as for a club or company I work for) are not accessible when composing
a message. They still show up as folders under Contacts in the left-hand
folder list. And, names are not recognized when I type them in.

Don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I have to run "Detect &
Repair" often in order to re-establish Word as my editor. (any ideas on this
too?)

Right click each of the additional contacts folders and on their properties page, select the option to show as an Outlook Address Book.

No, detect and repair basically goes through your installation and fixes/replaces/removes unneeded or corrupt files to restore it to functionality.
