Recently, several of my Outlook users have started to complain that their
Contacts aren’t showing up any more when they choose “Contacts†from the
Outlook Address Book after clicking the TO button while composing an email.
It lets them choose Contacts as an address book, but then there is nothing
listed under the Names column. If they just type in the name of a contact
from that list in the TO line while composing an email, it will find the name
and match it up from the Contacts list just fine. You just can’t see any of
them in the Select Names dialog box that you get when you click the TO
button. Also, if you do a search for anybody while you’re in that screen, it
will find them as well.
What’s really strange about this is that it started happening with one
person, then later another, and now I’m up to 3 people that this is happening
to. At one time, all of them were able to use their Contacts as an address
book. The only commonality that I see between them is the fact that they are
all Outlook 2002 users and they all have Blackberries. I’m wondering if
there is something going on with the interaction of the Blackberry server
software with Exchange that is screwing them up. None of them have installed
anything new on their machines since it started happening and none of them
have changed any settings.
Everything I’ve found online has said something about making sure that the
“Show this folder as an email Address Book†box is checked in the properties
of the Contacts list. This box has been, and continues to be, checked on all
of the machines that are having problems. It looks as though other people
may be having this same problem since I’ve seen similar issues pop up in
different newsgroups, but no one seems to have an answer yet. Here are the
things I’ve tried:
1) Deleting the profile and adding the profile back in.
2) Taking off the Outlook Address Book as an available address book and
adding it back in – in the properties of Outlook.
3) Unchecking “Show this folder as an email Address Bookâ€, restarting
Outlook, rechecking it, then restarting Outlook.
4) Creating the profile on a different machine with Outlook 2002. (I
actually created the profile on my machine where I’m not having any problems
with my contacts and I still had problems with the person’s contacts not
showing up – mine are still fine. This tells me that it may be something in
Exchange that is preventing the contacts from showing.)
5) Creating the profile on a machine with Outlook 2003. This actually
worked so it makes me think there’s something with Outlook 2002 and Exchange
that is messing me up.
I am getting a little concerned since more and more people are starting to
experience this same problem. If anyone has any advice on this, I would
greatly appreciate your input.
Thanks in advance.
