Contacts not allowed to connect to Outlook Address Book

I'm trying to import my Contacts info from an old laptop to my new laptop. I
have Office XP installed on both (from same disk). I can import Contacts to
the new laptop (running XP Professional) and see them when I open Outlook,
but they don't appear in my Outlook Address Book.

Following the help instructions, I right clicked on Contacts, went to
Properties and looked at the OutlooK Address Book tab. I see the box to have
Contacts shown as an Outlook Address book, but the line is greyed out, so I
am unable to check the box. I can do this same operation successfully with
my old computer.

Help!
