Contacts only showing up in Cached mode

Greg

Hi,
I have seen this addressed elsewhere, though still not resolved from my end.
We are using Exchange 2003 with the clients running Outlook 2003.
While in cached mode, we cannot see certain entries in our Global Address
Book.
When we remove cached mode, they show up.
Go back to cached mode, they disappear again.
We have replaced the OST, created a new profile, run various switch
commands, reinstalled Outlook 2003, and every other solution offered in the
threads in this forum, and none of them have solved our issue.
Does anyone have ANY recommendations on a way to solve this issue? My CFO is
getting REALLY annoyed with me!
Thanks,
Greg

When Outlook 2003 is operating in Cached Exchange mode, it always uses the offline address book (OAB). Your symptoms suggest that the user's local copy of the OAB doesn't include the data you're looking for. This can happen if

-- a new OAB with the latest entries has not yet been generated on the server
-- Outlook hasn't yet downloaded the new OAB
-- a problem occurred when downloading and/or merging the latest OAB update

The first issue may be the most likely cause of your problems. With the latest service pack applied to both Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2003, you get support for OAB v. 4, which should give you smaller downloads with fewer problems. See http://www.windowsitpro.com/Articles/Print.cfm?ArticleID=48587 for more information, including links to the KB article on good OAB practices.
