Contacts takes very long to open

When I click on the Contacts button in Outlook it takes an unusually long time to open. I've had problems importing addresses from Excel- addresses didn't import correctly, so at one point I deleted all addresses in my Contacts. I'm running XP Pro and Office 2003. Thanks, Mark
