Contacts view last name, first name

Office 2003, XP Pro, Operating System. When I view my contacts (from contacts folder) it shows last name, first name, in the view. BUT, when I create a new mail message and click on my contacts, to send an email, that view is first name, last name. My Global address list shows last name, first name. How can I get my contacts to default to last name, first name when selecting the contact from a new email message?????? THANKS.

You can't even make that selection in the Outlook Address Book. What did you
really select?

I have that selected as last name, first name. STILL displays from within
the email message as first name, last name.
