How do I set contact names in address book to default by Christian name then
surname. I just can't get it to work. If I change the name to say Joe Bloggs,
it keeps changing back to just Bloggs. What I want is the full name to show
on the list as Joe Bloggs. It doesn't seem to be consistent either as
sometimes it works but mostly not. I can't see any differences between the
ones that are OK to the ones that are not - ugh.......

Susan,
As a suggestion try this:
Go to Tools / Options / Contact Options. Set your default file setting there.
May help.

To set the display order, open Tools->options->Mail Setup->Email
Accounts->Directory->View/Change - set your sort order there.

I am having a similar problem. I am using Outlook 2003 at work and we have a
"global address book." It is sorted alphabetically by first name (in other
words, names are written as: Joe Smith) and I want to be able to look up
people by last name. Is there a way that I can change this? I tried doing
this as you explained (below) but it didn't work. Thank you!

The Global Address List (GAL) order is set by your Exchange administrator.
Ask if the contacts in the GAL can be sorted by last, first - but I doubt it
will be changed as the admin has to jump through some hoops to get it to
display by first last... and I suspect this was done at the request of a
"higher up."
