Continuation of print problem

My response is being truncated: Here is the complete response:
Thank you again. I just would like to confirm one possible misunderstanding about the printer driver issue. When I select 'print' in the drop down window from Word 2004, a box should open allowing me to select the printer, printer mode options, create pdf, or preview. I have not yet reached the stage where a particular printer is called (I have 2 printer profiles on my system). However, if instead of 'print' in the drop down window, I selected 'print preview' Word 2004 continued as expected, showed me the preview and allowed me to select the printer icon on the preview image, and the page then was physically printed correctly. Your comment about the OS may be correct, but I would assume that the subroutine to call for the printer drop down box would be similar if not the same across all applications. Also, checked the logs and 11.5.4 update was registered. {;>)

I understand & I don't mean to be a nit-picker :) but just offering info:

<snip>
I have not yet reached the stage where a particular printer is called (I have
2 printer profiles on my system).
<snip>

Yes, actually you have reached that stage: One of those printers is defined
as the default printer specified within the OS & as soon as you issue the
Print command - regardless of how - that printer is called. In fact, the
printer is "called" as soon as you launch Word because it relies on the
default printer driver to paginate a document among other things. It's just
that once the dialog opens you have the opportunity to make setting changes
and/or select a *different* printer.

As for the conflict you were experiencing I have a feeling the permissions
repair is what actually affected the cure. If you're feeling adventurous you
might try installing Reader 9 again & see what happens... Like I said, I'm
running it here with Office 2004 as well as 2008 on both an Intel Mac with
Leopard & a PPC Mac with Tiger ‹ no problems.

Au contraire, the nits are the interesting stuff. Thanks for your help and I will keep you informed of my endeavours to install Reader.

Hey Bob Jones, We have liftoff! Needed reader to mitigate the ghost effect of Mac Preview which didn't allow me to read the longer comments appended to my essay. Re-installed Reader 9, printer drivers, et al., verified and reset all permissions. (Must have rebooted 5 times in between.) Can now read my comment cells, can print and my world is at peace (for whatever short time it might be) until the next catastrophe. Thank you immensely for your nits.
