Continuous refreshing of a PowerPoint slide

I have a problem with continual screen refreshing of a PowerPoint 2003 slide.
The slide contains a photograph with semi-transparent rectangle (filter) on
top and four, two colour rectangles around the edge fading to transparent to
give the appearance of the photograph fading out at the edge.
Whenever I open the ppt file the slide will not stop refreshing. A second
slide in the same file containing simple or no graphics is OK. This has
happened before with slides of similar content.
Can anyone tell me if there is a simple explanation/solution?
My computer... HP pavilion, Pentium(R) 3.2 GHz
Software... Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2
MS Office 2003

Try this
Close ppt

Right click on your desktop - then>properties>settings>advanced>troubleshoot
(note this is NOT the first "troubleshoot" you see.)
Slide the hardware accelleration slider right back left and try again with
powerpoint.

You can then slide it back right bit by bit if you wish until the problem
comes back.

If this works you might try to look for video card driver updates.
