Control size of datasheet and design windows

Perhaps a "sort of silly" question ... but I find myself doing something over
and over I wish I didn't have to do.

When I open a table the window it gets displayed in extends all the way to
the right edge of the Access window every time - even if there are only 2
fields that require only 3 inches of horizontal space. Then I have to grab
the right or right-bottom edge and drag the window size to the edge of the
table data - this allows me to view and work with more than 1 object visible
on the screen. I wind up doing this dozens of times a day - very annoying.

For some reason I can set the window size for queries so that it opens in
that size the next time, but tables don't work that way.

I'd think there would be a way in the design of the table to specify the
display width of the object's winidow, but I haven't found it. It's probably
obvious, but for some reason it's eluded me.

Do you know?

Thanks

Hi John

Open the table and double click the line at the top of the field (between
that field and the next) to the right of the caption. Click Save.

This should set your table how you want it

Hope this helps

Thanks Wayne, but I think I'm talking about a different problem.

I know about double clicking the line at the top of the field that divides
it from the next field to change the field width to accomodate the longest
string of data in the field.

What I'm talking about is the edge of the window way over there to the right
that displays nothing but empty space for tables with only a few columns that
don't fill up that space.

Try it.

Open a simple query with only, say, two columns. Move the right edge of the
query window to the left up to the edge of the last column. Save the query.
Open it again. For me, the window's width will be the same as what I set it.

But then do the same for a table with only 2 or 3 columns - that don't fill
up the space all the way to the right edge of the window. Pull the right edge
over to the end of the last column. Save it. Open it again - and for me it
opens back to its original width.

Darn annoying.

Thanks again.
