Control + V paste command pastes a screen print image rather than text

When I use "control + C" and "control + V" to copy and paste, instead of
having the copied text inserted into the document, a "screenshot" of the
entire screen is inserted where I wanted to insert text. Anybody ever see
this happen. By the way, this happens when I use an external keyboard or
the laptop's keyboard. TIA for any help.

That would happen if you pressed the PrintScreen key before pressing Ctrl+V.
PrintScreen copies a snapshot of the current screen to the clipboard
(Shift+PrintScreen copies a snapshot of just the current window).

If Ctrl+C is acting like the PrintScreen key, then it sounds like something
or someone has remapped that keystroke. Is this happening in Word? What
about in other applications?

If it's just in Word, then try this:

Tools - Customize - Keyboard button.

Click in Press new shortcut key box, and press Ctrl+C. What does it say for
"Currently assigned to"? If it doesn't say Edit Copy, then choose Edit
(under Categories) and EditCopy (under Commands), and click Assign. Does
that fix it?

If not, then I wonder if perhaps you have some kind of add-in that's
interpreting/changing how your keys are defined.
