Controller Dimension not working

I recently upgraded to Visio 2003. Often, when I update a controller
dimensions length via custom properties, the length does not change. Why?

I'm using the controller dimension from the Walls, Shell and Structure shape
stencil, and I'm using the it to show distances between walls.
