Controlling e-mail

Greetings:

Does anyone know of ways aside from the preferences tool
to control e-mail notifications sent out of project server?

The volume of e-mail is such, even with various
preferences on the client side set to reduce, that people
disregard project server messages anyway.

We'd like to cut down on these, and handle some e-mail
notifications personally rather than through project
server generated.
