Controlling Pivot Chart refreshes

I am building a reporting tool using Access as the front-end to an Oracle
database. I need to contruct a number of Pivot Form/Charts for data analysis,
but because the source data tables contain over 2 million records, find that
the Pivot Forms & Charts take too long to load BEFORE I can select a data
subset of the underlying data. The subset criteria are not static, and so
cannot be built into the query.
How can I delay the Pivot Form or Chart from connecting to the data source
until the selection criteria have been given?
