Controls won't delete.

I made an info path form and while preparing to publish to a
sharepoitn site I noticed that all of the original field names
( field1, field2, etc) still remained in the list despite being
changed. It also contained some deleted controls and were not on the
list anymore.. I published the form and it worked fine, but I decided
to take a closer look. I filled out the form and looked the created
xml file to find that the xml file still contained the old fields in
addition to the new fields.

Does anybody know why this happens?

These are not controls typically but fields in your schema that are
automatically created if you create the controls first. You can go into
designed and view your datasource and delete extra fields using the right
click menu.
