I've run into an issue with Outlook 2007 constantly asking for user name and
password on Windows 7 clients connected to a SBS 2008 network.
The type of password prompt that comes up is the same that you get when
connecting from outside the lan using RPC over HTTP - the window indicates
that the connection is being made to "remote.xxxx.xxx"
This problem occurs when the windows 7 clients are on the LAN. Even though
the prompts come up repeatedly, outlook still connects and email flows fine.
When the computers were first setup a couple of weeks ago, there were no
issues.
However, since then we've been trying to get the built-in VPN working, and
there has been issues with that as well.
At first, when attempting to enable the VPN via the SBS wizard, the wizard
indicated that it had completed successfully, but the status of the VPN on
the admin console still showed 'off'
After disabling the RRAS and running the 'Fix my network' wizard a couple of
times, the VPN wizard enabled properly, and seems to be working OK, other
than name resolution (another topic entirely!)
Since the above VPN fix, the password issue has now appeared. Google turns
up alot of results for repeated password dialogs, but none seem to be helping
to resolve this.
I have tried removing the outlook profile and recreating it, removing stored
passwords, disabling RPC over HTTP, nothing seems to have any effect. Server
is fully patched via windows update, and it is a very standard SBS config.
Just setup a brand new Dell desktop today on the network, same problem occurs
once outlook is configured.
Intrestingly enough, other network machines with Outlook 2003 and Win XP
have no issues.
Has anyone seen anything like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Cheers,
Paul
