I was trying to convert a lotus123 to excel and did something that all my
excel worksheets (.xls) now open in wordpad. What did I do?

How can I get all mt files back to my normal excel

Thanks

Arthur,

Do the file names still have .xls for the extension? Can you open them inside Excel with
File - Open, and if so, do the formulas still work?

top-posted, the thread gets messy. When in Rome.

The XLS ectensions are still there. When I try to open it goes to wordpad.
If I open from the right side window of recent files used it opens as an
excel spread, but when I save again it goes back to wordpad

I presume this was a reply to my post. It was posted as a reply to your original post.
Also, you're mixing bottom-posting with the existing top-posting.

Your Windows file association seems to have gotten changed for the xls extension. To fix
it, open any folder (My Documents will do). Tools - Folder options - File types tab. Find
the xls extension in the list. It's probably saying to open with WordPad. Change it there
to Excel.

The first thing that I'd try is to reregister excel to set it back to factory
defaults.

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

Then test it out.
