Yes, run a parallel install. It's been about 3 months since I last did this
so I'm telling from memory (which is starting to fai - what was I talking
about?)

Insert the CD/DVD and start the install process for 2007. Look for a custom
install or default install message. Choose custom install. When it finds
the previous version of the software, it will ask if you want to overwrite
the previous. Choose to keep previous install. IIRC you can even tell it
to overwrite some of the programs and leave others. Personally, I would
leave all the previous versions if you have the hard drive space so you can
go back to a previous version of Word or PPT.
