Conversion from PC

I recently converted to Macbook. I have a Jeopardy game that I use in the classroom. I used to be able to click on the point value, get the question, get the answer, hit home button and the point value would turn in a different color so I knew which question I had already clicked on. Since the conversion, it won't change color and I can't tell which one I've clicked on. Help.

It's quite likely that the original PowerPoint file contained Visual Basic macros, which were used to run the Jeopardy game. (PowerPoint isn't really a gaming application, but some people have added interactive functions to PowerPoint presentations by using macros.) Macros will work in PowerPoint for Windows and PowerPoint 2004 for Mac, but unfortunately PowerPoint 2008 for Mac dropped macro support.

So you have some choices:

1. Install Windows in a virtual environment such as Parallels Desktop or VMWare, install PowerPoint for Windows there, and load up your Jeopardy game there;

2. Install PowerPoint 2004 for Mac and try running your Jeopardy game on that version;

3. Wait until late 2010, when PowerPoint 2010 for Mac (?) will be released, which is supposed to return Visual Basic macro support to Office for Mac users.

You could also try running PowerPoint for Windows under Crossover for Mac, but there is no guarantee that the macros will run as you like in that environment.

Finally, if you really, really want to run the Jeopardy game under PowerPoint 2008 for Mac, you could try your hand at reprogramming the VBA in AppleScript, which Office 2008 does support. This is of course assuming that you have the time and inclination to learn a new programming language, of course...

Jeff's suggestions are good ones, but since everything works other than color change
for followed hyperlinks, I suspect this is all done w/o VBA and just uses hyperlinks.

Some PowerPoint 2007 users have reported that followed hyperlinks don't change color
as they should. Perhaps this is a compatibility feature in Mac 2008 that retains the
bugs of the Windows version? :-(
