I can't open my saved document because it is in code. Can anyone help? Thanks

It is often an indication of corrupt documents. Have they always been on the
computer HDD or have they been transferred from somewhere else?

Document was just created on my computer yesterday. Is there a way to
retrieve corrupted documents?

It is unlikely to be that problem then. It isn't usual for a document saved
to the local HDD to corrupt quite that easily unless something else happened
at the time it was saved.

Just make sure that in the File, Open dialog, File Types is set to
Documents.

Also, create a new simple text document and save it. Close your computer,
reopen the document. Is it OK?

I was able to open the new basic document I created; however, I am still
unable to find the other document. There was a power outage while I was
using word and also I may have saved the document using the same name.

I guess that it corrupted when the power went down.
