Conversion of Hours and % complete

A

Andrea

Hello All,

The issue of a plan that was running with % Complete and
then transfers over to tracking hours. So, lets say it
was 50% complete and then they switch over to doing hours
and they put in 8 hours where they are in their schedule.

Let's say the task was 800 hours. Now the system, because
of the switch is saying it is 1/100th finished vs.
translating the 50% complete into 400 hours and then
adding the 8 to the 400 going forward.

Even still, the question was how is Project tracking that
change and if you wanted to go from one to the other, how
do you get the %complete to properly translate into hours
after the conversion, etc. And how is it possible for it
to tracking both in some plans?

Regards,
Andrea

Are you the "Anxious Andrea" whose messages I have answered recently?

Regardless of that, when you change the method of tracking progress in the
middle of a project, you must "push" the new method of tracking to each
user's timesheet in PWA by clicking Collaborate - Publish - Republish
Assignments and then clicking OK. Do know that only unstarted task
assignments will show the new method of tracking progress on each user's PWA
timesheet, however. In your example, a task with 800 hours of work that was
marked 50% complete using the % Work Complete method of tracking will
continue to use that method of tracking until the project is complete.

If this is not desirable and you want the entire system use the Hours of
work done per day or per week method of tracking, then you could do the
following:

1. Save the project as an .mpp file
2. Delete the project from the Project Server database
3. Import the Project into the Project Server database
4. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments
5. Select the "Overwrite actual work entered by resources" option and click
OK

When you complete these steps, the 800 hour task marked as 50% complete will
show 400 hours of Actual Work on each user's timesheet in PWA. To answer
your last question, you can only have one method of tracking progress for
each project plan. The only way you can "mix" the tracking modes in a
single project is if you change the method of tracking progress for that
project in midstream, as I have documented in the first paragraph. Hope
this helps.
