Conversion of Sites make with publisher 2000 to publisher 2003

Chris

I'm looking at building multiple sites with Publisher 2000 initially. When
my organization goes through an software upgrade, we will be moving to
publisher 2003.

My question is this: Has anyone tried to convert sites made with 2000 to
2003? Does the conversion create errors in the code or in line styles? Are
the file naming conventions the same? Are the 2 sites compatible?

Thank you in advance

It has been mentioned here by some of the MVPs that Publisher 2000 is better
for websites than later versions of Publisher. For one thing Pub 2000 sites
are capable of centering site displays on monitors by adding the </center>
code. Due to coding changes of sites created in later versions of Publisher
they are not able to center displays; they remain left justified.

In addition to what Don said, I would stay with Pub 2000 for your websites,
for a lot of reasons. There are at least three articles you should read:
Using Publisher for Web sites, Pub 2002, what's new..., and Pub 2003, what's
new:

The way the three versions work are very different.

I would also suggest that if your company doesn't have to upgrade right
away, then you wait for Pub 2007, which is due for release either late this
year, or early next. When or if you do upgrade, you can do a custom install,
and keep Pub 2000 on your computer. In that way you can choose which you
prefer for web and for print documents.

I just upgraded to 2003 and have a couple big problems. The reason I
upgraded was so that I could re-arrange 30 pages easily and continuing doing
so as the site grew. But NOW the problem is (1) every page now begins 17
inches down! How can I correct that? Seems like I traded one problem for
another.

Sarah,

Generally it is better to start a new thread, with new questions. See your
other posts.
