Hi,
I tried out Mac Office 2004. I have it coming. When I install it, will all
my data such as e-mails, contacts, tasks, etc ³automatically² come over or
do I have to do some ³moving?²

Thanks.

Hi Frank,

The installer (if you use it - that's optional) will notice you have
tried the demo and will keep your Entourage data.

Your things are located in a folder called "Microsoft User Data" in the
Documents folder, which you can back up before installing in case you
are worried about things disappearing.

Jim,
tried the demo and will keep your Entourage data. <<

99% of my data though is on Office OSX. Will the installer notice that too
and bring it all over??

With the demo, nothing seemed to be brought over. It was like it was two
separate programs, Office for OSX and the Office 2004 Test Drive.

Thanks.

That's not really a problem, either. I'm not sure if it's automatically
imported, but there's always the option of importing it using the
File/Import... command. If you still have your Office 2004 Test Drive, try
it. In the window that shows up, select "Import information from a program",
and in the following window, "Microsoft Entourage X". You will then be asked
what you would like to import, and Entourage 2004 will do the rest.

I used the basic method of copying and when I started up the new Entourage
for the first time I was prompted for which profiles I wanted to import. I
select the correct ones, waited while conversion happened and then I was
done. Every simple.

With the demo, nothing seemed to be brought over. It was like it was twoDeliberately, I think, in case you decide not to buy it.

This is focused on Word but you may find it useful if you use any programs
other than Entourage:

Entourage 2004's incredible inability to import my mail messages from
Entourage v.X was the primary reason I ditched it. I have several
Outlook/IMAP mailboxes in v.X for which I no longer have access.
Entourage 2004 "imported" the settings for connecting to the mailboxes
but not a single one of the messages. Microsoft tech support's answer?
Export the messages from v.X and then import then in 2004. This, of
course, puts them all in the "On My Computer" section of the
application, requiring me either to organize them myself manually or to
deal with them all grouped into one folder. Neither of which was acceptable.

The other thing that truly bugged me about Entourage 2004 was the
inability to turn off its insistence on checking these servers (for
which I no longer have accounts) every time at startup even after I
remove them from the Send/Remove All lists and schedules. This works
just fine in v.X.

This was the first time I ever returned a piece of software because it
was so lousy. I strongly recommend you evaluate your needs very
precisely before paying to "upgrade".
