convert a book to .pdf to word

I want to convert a paperback book, 300 pages or so, into a .pdf that
I can then convert into Word. What is the best way to do this with no
mistakes. Or should I just hire a typist?

If it is not already in the public domain, and even if if it you are
allowed to make a copy for yourself, just not disseminate it, and
there are other rules for educational use.

Hire the typist! You could scan the book directly to Word, using (say)
Finereader, but there wioll be a lot of sub-editing required. Converting
first to PDF only makes the job much harder (but if you have a PDF copy, why
would you want a Word copy also unless you wish to plagiarise?). I too have
reservations about copyright!
