Convert all 2000 docs to 2007 automatically?

Windows Vista, installed Home Student office 2007 CD, had Word 2000. Two
issues:

1) I'd liket to know if there is a way for all previous MS Word documents,
the Word 2000, to automatically be converted at once to MS 2007, without
having to go back and do so for every single document in my computer that is
a MS Word 2000 document. I thought all old Word documents would convert to
the new Word. They're pretty much just text and text boxes, nothing fancy.
So either I have to manually change every document, which means a lengthy
process, or there is a way where all old Word documents can be automatically
updated/converted to the new Word document?
2) When I have a Word or Wordpad document up and Save As and Open With (or
Change To under Properties), the only option available - unless I've already
converted it to new Word - is Wordpad, even for old Word documents. That also
makes the conversion process lengthier than expected. How can Word 2007 move
to that default position?

Maaaaaaaaaaaaany thanks for answers, one way or another. MS people have
given me a mammoth headache.

1) Why would you want to convert all documents?
2) How are you opening a word.doc? from Explorer or within Word 2007, open?
When you open the old doc does the Word 2007 title bar state - 'doc name'
(Compatibility Mode)?
