Convert from XP down to Professional 2000 using Windows 98

I am using an excel spreadsheet as the data source for queries and reports in a database. Unfortunately, on recently upgrading to Windows XP I saved the files as XP and another user linked to the same system cannot now open the queries or reports in the database. I have re-saved the excel spreadsheet to 97-2000 and this can now be opened but the links to it via the reports and queries have been lost - message says something liked fatal error. Can someone please tell me how to change the queries and reports back to Windows 98 otherwise I will have to redo them all again and the reports are quite intricate and complicated
