Convert HTML Pages Created in Word to FP 2003?

?

-

Is there any way to convert webpages that were created in MS Word (2000 and
2003) so that they become pages native to FP 2003 and thus can utilize
things like the navigation pane, all image files for all webpages in a
single "image" folder, etc.? Viewing the original html files from within FP
file display window, they all have the Word html icon. Double clicking on
them opens up the file in Word instead of FP. I can right click on the file
name from within FP and tell it to open with FP, but that only lasts for
that FP session. Once you close and reopen FP, you have to "open with" all
over again.

I have tried creating a new html file in FP, opening the old Word version,
then cut and pasting everything from Word into the blank FP file. This
doesn't do any good. Once you save it, the file then appears with the Word
html icon and the file will natively open up in Word for editing vs. FP.

One thing that almost worked was to create a new html page in FP, saving it
as a new name, then opening the old file in Word, then cutting and pasting
everything from Word into the FP file. Unforunately, the paragraph
formatting and graphic placement gets all messed up.

Any suggestions for workflows or converter software would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The best answer? Create a new page in FrontPage and save it. Copy the
text from Word to Notepad, then from Notepad to your new page. This is
the cleanest way. Format and save. Highly recommended - Notepad is the
ultimate HTML editor anyway. 10 years from now, you will agree.

The next answer? Create a new page in FrontPage and save it. Copy the
text from Word to your new page. Hit Tools -> Opimize HTML... and make
sure that the Word HTML box is checked - hit OK. Save.

The last answer? There is an Office 2003/XP Add-in: Remove Hidden Data
- With this add-in you can permanently remove hidden data and
collaboration data, such as change tracking and comments, from
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint files. It is
at:

Good luck.

Firstly, I suggest you create the page from scratch in the tool designed for
the job: Frontpage.

Word is not an HTML editor (hence the messy HTML code) nor is Frontpage is
not a word processor (hence the lack of, or messed-up formatting when cut &
pasting from Word). If you really want to this, you save/export the word
file as HTML, then import that file into your Frontpage site. (do not cut
and paste anything). Word creates pretty bad HTML though, which is why it
is best to write the page from scratch in Frontpage itself.

Anyway, you need to have a Frontpage web/site open, then you can import your
HTML files you created with Word into Frontpage and open them via File >
Open etc (i.e. don't double click to open, or right click, Open With....
etc).

I'm not sure if that will 'associate' the word-created HTML files with
Frontpage, but there are options within FP to make it the default editor for
certain files.

Clear the box "Open web pages in the Office Application that created
them"
