I am thinking about converting all my Corel files to Microsoft Office 2003
Professional version. Is it possible to convert my database files from
Paradox to Access? If so, is it very difficult? Creating new tables and
re-entering all data is not an option.
It's doable, but it's not going to be fun. :-{(
You can Import the data in the tables. All the Paradox user interface
features will have to be not only redone, but reTHOUGHT - Access Forms
are *very* different in structure and design from Paradox forms.
You will probably also need to give some careful thought to
normalizing your table structure. Paradox is less fully relational
than Access, and it's routine to have "lookup" fields and calculated
fields in Paradox tables; neither type of field is appropriate in
Access. Instead you'ld store the base data in Tables and use Queries
to do the links and the calculation.
All the caveats out of the way - I'd strongly recommend it. Access is
(IME) a stronger and easier-to-use programming and development
environment than Paradox.
