convert Persuasion files to Power Point

M

mOmO

hello,

I'm trying to convert Persuasion presentations ( I dont know the
version, extension is PN4) to PowerPoint
I posted on the "fr" group without satisfactory answers

I'd checked whith Google and found old posts of '2000 explaining that
the only way is to have files saved on Persuasion 2.1 format which can
be opened with PowerPoint 3 or 4 for Mac (answers were from Steve
Rindsberg & Ross Wylde-Browne)

I found also that PPtools can be of some help; could somebody confirm
that ?
and confirm that " .pn4" extensions are suitable ?

any other possibilities will be appreciated
I'm working on Win XP home/PP 2003 and Win 98/PP 97

thanks for helping, and sorry for my basic English

mOmO,

pn4 is the extension for a "Persuasion 4.0 Presentation (*.pn4)"

To convert a *.pn4 you need...

Persuasion 4 to convert it to a "Persuasion 3.0 Presentation (*.pr3)"

Persuasion 3 to convert it to a "Persuasion 2.1 Presentation"

PowerPoint 4.2.1 to convert from Persuasion 2.1 to PowerPoint...

And as I am writing this, I can't open Windows-done presentations with
Persuasion for Mac, or the other way.

As far as your pn4 was made on a Mac I could have a look...

Very cordialmente

Mécé Steve Rindsberg Kazécry :
Version 4, I'd guess; as I recall, Persuasion always included its
version number in the file extension.

Hi Steve,
thanks for your answer
After PowerPoint 4 came out, it pretty much took over the market. By
the time its successor, PPT 95 was released, Persuasion had virtually
no market share, so I guess MS decided not to devote resources to
updating the import filters for it. As far as I recall, 4 or 95 was
the last version that would import Persuasion files. And since
Persuasion had multiple masters and user-customizable layouts, which
PowerPoint *still* doesn't have, the results of the import weren't
all that great even when it worked.

seems a consistent commercial attitude;
None of the PPTools addins would help you convert directly from
Persuasion to PPT, but the free Starter Set includes a
sizing/positioning tool that might help if you can open the
Persuasion files IN Persuasion and copy/paste into PPT.
c'est dommage! (what a pity);
It's for a friend, he has no more access to the log:
the "computers department" having stated some months ago, without any
advise, that Persuasion was no more used in his company!
He has a lot of presentation for training people, some of them very
large!

If you can do that, this may help:

Converting XXX presentations to PowerPoint

thanks, I'd a look at it before posting, seems usefull!
personnally I still have very old log on old computers
that's why I was requested for this mission!

I hope I'll find a friend whith an old Mac whith an old PP and try to do
some thing, no mater of time for me
If I succeed in doing some thing, I 'll let you know

thanks for your answer and your web site, I can stop looking for a
"ready to use" solution

Hello Enric,

I don't know if it was on a Mac or a PC;
the smallest file (216 ko) is there: http://cjoint.com/?cBstLfjvUe

reading you, I understand that I will find no solution:
I can contemplate to find a friend whith an old version of PP for Mac,
but nobody will have this fleet of Persuasion

thank anyway for your so discouraging answer

mOmO,
thank anyway for your so discouraging answer

Man of little faith...

;-)

Bad news at the moment...
It is a Windows-Persuasion...
I can't open it at the moment at the Mac-side.

:-(

From the Windows-side I can make *wmf or *.pdf...
The wmf, imported and ungrouped in PowerPoint transform much more better
than I would have thought...

;-)

As far as I think that the information is *sensible*. One of my clients is
the Company which owns the slides... I need your real address to send you
the files...

Hi,

I'm at:
maurice dot filippi at free dot fr

It's very kind of you, I will see what I can do with it,
I did know what was on the presentation, I just had a glance with the
note-pad
my friend, still working in this company is afraid to re-do all the work
she did months ago,
thanks a lot Enric

well received,

that's perfect and very kind of you :)
I don't know what to do whith the "auxiliary" files, but the pps is
working perfectly
I send you 100,000 pn4 files by return, if I can get the corresponding
pps by midnight lol

thanks a lot Enric,
I'll relate on " .....fr.powerpoint", where I spent some time, how
your NG is more efficient
JièL & Jean-Pierre will appreciate ;-)

avec gratitude

Thanks...

Well... the "auxiliary files" (I will sent to you exactly 181 auxiliary
files) will be the wmf-auxiliary-files that *YOU'll have to insert* in 5
different presentations...

1, 2, 3, 4 and 5... without ungrouping the wmf

then... *YOU'll have to ungroup* the 181 wmf in the 5 presentations and
save-rename them... (if you want to make any change)

THEN

*YOU'll have* 5 pps or ppt that will be working perfectly and *YOU will be
very proud* of *YOUR work*...

;-)

By the way: trait 2.pn4 and traitements.pn4 are VERY similar (different but
VERY similar) both of them correspond to Point No. 4 (Pollutions, nuisances
et traitement), there is no ***.pn4 por Point No. 5 (Du diagnostic au plan
d'action)...
I'll relate on " .....fr.powerpoint", where I spent some time, how your
NG is more efficient

I think... that you're wrong...

The MS PowerPoint MVP Team may speak different languages...
but it is always with the same message...

Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno
Un pour tous, tous pour un
One for all, all for one
Uno para todos, todos para uno
Einer für alle, alle für einen
Uno per tutti, tutti per uno

Or, as Sonia Coleman says...
"If you're going to spend your time with a group of people, find the best
group available in the world."
but nobody will have this fleet of Persuasion

At the MS PowerPoint MVP Team... there is *someone* always... And that
includes Jean-Pierre...

;-)

This tells me nothing, I don't know these presentations at all
I'll discover them with the 181 files you prepared ;-)
I think... that you're wrong...

we might discuss a long about that, unfortunatly it's not Sunday
(trolls are admited only on Sunday on ...fr.etc )
but for my demand it's not discutable: *YOU* did it

he helped me several times
