Convert Print Artist to Publisher

J

Judy

I need to convert documents in Sierra Print Artist Gold (2000) to Publisher.
I would also be very happy to locate any program that could read and properly
display my documents from this discontinued program. The Sierra company (now
Vivendi Games) could not help me. TIA

You can try to do a Select All, Copy and then Paste it into a blank
Publisher document. If that doesn't work (and don't expect perfection if it
does), then you're going to have to start from scratch.

JoAnn,
Unfortunately I can't open these documents. When I try, I get gibberish. I
can't open them in Print Artist because my old computer crashed and I can
only find one of the two install disks from that program. I have tried to
buy a copy of the old Print Artist program, but could not (from Sierra, eBay
or Amazon). I also contacted Vivendi's (Sierra) tech support and their
corporate headquarters. No luck. What I really need is a converter that
will read the old documents and transfer them to Publisher. Any ideas?

What version Print Artist did you have? My very old version is 4.0 and can open .gfx
images on an old Windows 98 computer. How many images do you have? You might do a
search for a utility...

I can tell you that there are no converters that will turn them (or
anything) into Publisher documents.

No, but the images can be converted to something usable to Publisher. It was not a
great program, but it did have a lot of clipart. Any project was saved in the native
format, same as Publisher. Personally, unless it was Uncle Wilber's last will and
testament I wouldn't bother trying to salvage anything created with Print Artist.

I'm picturing Uncle Wilber's will chock-full of clipart. :)

Thanks to JoAnn and Mary for their advice and opinions. I was able to find
two Print Artist programs -- Platinum 98 and Platinum 2003. Unfortunately
neither would read my Print Artist Gold 2000 programs. I think I am just
going to have to start over, unless I can find a 2000 or 2001 version.
Evidently those are the only versions that will read my documents, according
to a Sierra (Vivendi) executive.

I didn't use a lot of the Print Artist clip art. What I liked best was the
ability to do creative, artistic things with the fonts. They had "Title
Fonts": many "layered" effects that could be done with the layers and edges
in multiple colors - and each color could be customized. I did great
banners, posters, fliers, bulletin board headings, etc. with this feature.

I also design photo note cards (my original photos) and used the layered
print on the cards. I had over 100 card designs -- each photo had its own
card. Now I have to do them all over, but without the "Title Font" features
I had in Print Artist. Oh, i-n case you are wondering -- I make these for my
personal use (my friends love to receive my cards) or for a charity that
sponsors needy Chinese childern. I do not sell any for personal income.

Print Artist 21 is the current version, available from www.printartist.com
Print Artist 18 was 2003, 15 was 2002.
This means that Print Artist 12 was probably Print Artist (something) 2001.

includes Print Artist 12.
