Converter Word 6.0/95 export problem

G

Geoffrey Sneddon

If I open a document in word 2001 (which has all the updates available
installed running on OS 9.2) by any means it comes up with an alert saying
"There is not enough memory or disk space to run the converter Word 6.0/95
Export.".

Hi Geoffrey,

I don't know why you're getting that particular memory message, but try
raising Word's memory and see if that helps:

Navigate to the Word application in the Finder, select it and Get Info
(Command i). Go to the Memory pane and raise Word's Preferred memory to
48000K (leave Minimum memory alone). Also, be sure Virtual Memory is turned
on (Control Panels> Memory).

Now rebuild your desktop.

Also, I understand that the most stable versions of OS 9 are 9.1 (which I'm
in) and 9.2.2. You might try up- or down-grading your OS.

Hope this helps.

Hi Geoffrey:

That error sometimes means "The converter I found is for the wrong version
of Word." (I.e. It's attempting to start a Word 6 or Word X version of the
converter).

You often get this problem if you move the Word program folder around. For
a long and happy life, it's best to leave it on the boot partition if you
can.

You may find that running the Office Remover and re-installing will bring
things right. (Beth can remember where to find it, I can't :))

As Beth says, rebuilding the desktop often fixes it, and if you do a remove
and re-install, I consider it essential to rebuild.

Hope that helps
