Converting a Database

I work for Columbus Consolidated Government in Georgia.
We have a REFLEX Database that was created in 1987. They
want to convert to MS Access 2000. Is there any Freeware
program that will do it, or a simpler solution?

Don't know who owns Reflex now, or even if it exists as a product. My
recollection is that it was a Borland product. Perhaps you can get
assistance via Borland. www.borland.com.

Also, Google searches may lead to something.

To assist in this conversion, find all the Reflex manuals, program
files, and floppy disks that you can. You'll probably need them.

To eliminate future problems when you want to convert from Access 2000,
consider at least using Access 2003 ... consider also using something
more generic so that it will last longer than the Reflex app did.

Finally, advise them in future to evolve the app as technology changes.
Doing nothing for 17 years hasn't helped now.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

From the 1987 date, I assume that the file was created with Reflex 1.x
running under DOS. If you do not have a running copy of Reflex now,
you can try to find an early version of Quattro Pro for DOS and import
it and then export it in a format that you can use. You can also
import your file into Reflex 2.0. However, if you have no experience
running Reflex, before you try to open the program, create a copy
first, because unless you know how to set it up, Reflex 2.0 will
corrupt your file.

If necessary, I can probably do the conversion for you, as I currently
run Reflex 2.0 under WinXP. E-mail me directly as I don't regularly
monitor this newsgroup.
