Converting a protected database

Dear NG.
I have to convert a secured database from Access 97 to the Access 2000
format.
I connected to the Access 97 MDW file and converted the database.
Unfortunately, no workgroup user can change his password and the permission
of the workgroup admins seem to have gone (when using Access 2003).
Is there a way to convert an Access 97 MDW file to Access 2003 (or 2000),
such that it can be used for a proper conversion of the database? I don't
want to recreate all users and groups using the correct PIDs, because I
don't know them all (the one that created them did not document...)
What is the OldSID column in MSysAccounts for? Can the SIDs from the Access
97 MDW be copied there?

Best regards,
Wolfgang

In this situation (to avoid any future hassles), I would go back to the 97
version of the mdb. Use Sandra Daigle's utility (dbUtilities 1.1 at
http://www.daiglenet.com/MSAccess.htm) to script out the permissions.
Remove security in 97. Then convert the mdb to 2000 or 2003 format. Then
resecure it in 2003 - you can create the same group names/ user names with
different PIDs. Then you can use Sandra's utility for 2003 to write the
permissions back in (dbUtilities 1.0 at
http://www.daiglenet.com/MSAccess.htm)
