Converting a secured 97 file to 2002

Given the following facts, does anyone have a better solution for
converting a secured Access 97 file into Access 2002 than what I have
come up with (see item 6 below)?

1. I am an administrator with full privileges to all objects
including the database object.
2. I have joined the correct workgroup.
3. I am NOT the owner of the database object although I am on all
other objects.
4. The owner is not available to do the conversion on many of the
files in question.
5. I am unable to complete a "straight" conversion by simply joining
the workgroup and opening the 97 file in 2002. I am told I do not
have sufficient privileges, etc.
6. The only workaround I have come up with is to ...
a. Join the custom .mdw file and restore privileges to the Admin
user in 97.
b. Open 97 (joined to the default system.mdw file), create a new
database, and import all the objects from the secured file.
c. Convert the newly created 97 file to 2002.
d. Rejoin the custom .mdw file.
e. Recreate permissions for all database objects as they were in
97.

Any help would be appreciated because I have several files with fairly
complicated security.

Thanks in advance!
